극단 해피아이 MUSICAL ENGLISH ‘춘향전’

-단체소개

2004년 인하대내 영어연극모임인 ‘C&C'를 출발하여 2005년 연수구청에서 ’Snow White'를 기획공연 하였으며 작년에 해피아이 개인인가를 취득하여 영어뮤지컬‘흥부&놀부’를 기획하여 국내공연 및 해외공연으로 ‘태국 BIS international school에서 공연을 하였습니다.  올해는 두 번째 작품인 ‘춘향전’을 기획하여 공연을 가지게 되었습니다.

-제작/기획의도

우리의 전통극인 ‘춘향전’을 판소리와 더불어 세계 공용어인 영어로 재구성하여 총12 Scene으로 국내공연 및 해외공연을 준비함으로서, 우리의 극을 영어 교육적 프로그램으로 각색하여 재미있고 흥미 있게 볼 수 있도록 구성하여 보다 쉽게 영어와 친숙할 수 있는 동기유발 및 우리 문화를 소개하고 새로운 문화 창작 활동의 활성화 추진  

-연출의도

우리문화인 판소리의 시작으로 줄거리를 알리면서 영어내용을 쉽게 이해하고

아름다운 사랑이야기를 21세기 글로벌 시대에 발맞춰 영어로 재구성하여 총 12 Scene 의 구성으로 극을 전개하며 중간에 마당극 식으로 관객과 하나 되는 시간을 가짐으로서 관객으로 하여금 고전문화에 대한 친밀함과, 우리 아이들에게 우리 전통소리의 참맛을 전하고 알릴 수 있기를 의도하는 바입니다. 

-작품줄거리

☞ Situation1

Bahng Jah(방자) lets Hyang Dahn(향단)know that Bahng Jah's lord will come to the fair.   They have a plan to make their masters get together because if their masters get together, Bahng Jah and Hyang Dahn can get together, too.  So they pray for their happiness.

 ♬ Forever and Forever

 ♬ If my lord sees your Beautiful lady

☞ Situation 2

Bahn Jah's lord, Mong Ryong(몽룡), sees Choon hyang (춘향) on the swing.  He follows his servant, Bahng Jah, to meet her.  When Mong Ryong meets Choon Hyang, he faints because Choon Hyang is too Bright to look at.  Mong Ryong faints again because Choon Hyang is tooooooo pretty.

 ♬ Oh!  What a beautiful Day

☞ Situation 3

Mong Ryong visits Choon Hyang's house to propose to her.  Choon Hyang's mother lets Mong Ryong ask her daughter to marry him.  Mong Ryong kneels down in front of Choon Hyang and asks if she will marry him. 

They will be Together

☞ Situation 4

While choon Hyang tries to put on the wedding gown, Mong Ryong and Bahng Jah visit her, Bahng jah gives Choon Hyang, her mother and Hyang Dahn the bad news.  Mong Ryong's family is moving to Seoul.

☞ Situation 5

After Mong Ryong leaves for Seoul, a new mayor, Byun, comes to town, He is a mean man.  He always takes the citizens'food and money.  If the citizens don't bring food and money to him, he orders thew soldiers to hit them. 

 ♬ We cannot live like this

☞ Situation 6

The servants bring Choon Hyang to the new mayor.  When the mayor meets Choon Hyang, he proposes to her.  However, Choon Hyang doesn't want to marry him because she loves Mong Ryong

♬ Oh, Poor Choon Hyang

☞ Situation 7

The king makes Mong Ryong a member of the King's Secret Guard.  He gives Mong Ryong his own soldiers.

Mong Ryong hides his profession from Bahang Jah.  But Bahang Jah sees the Secret Guard's seal.

♬ What can we do?

☞ Situation 8

Mong Ryong visits the prison where Choon hyang is. 

Choon Hyang's mother is very disappointed when she sees Mong Ryong wearing beggear's clothes. 

While Choon Hyang's mother is crying, the soldiers come to bring Choon Hyang to the new mayor, Byun.

☞ Situation 9

The new mayor, Byun, proposes to Choon Hyang again. 

But, Choon Hyang still doesn't want to marry him. 

When Byun orders his servants to hit her, the King's Secret Guard suddenly appears and stops them.
